As a one-time confused novice, now pulling a game together from the SRD and
original material and PI, I totally agree with you.  It's the most
confusing license I ever had to figure out.  I think I have it "down" now,
but it took a lot of "extra information" and a gentleman's agreement to
make it all make sense, finally.

Now I still run into a few "grey" areas(I have a _lot_ of non-OGC material
to convert), but I don't sweat it as much.  If it's dark grey I include
with OGC, if it's light grey I try to rewrite a little differently and keep
it separate.  

Pretty simple, now, but at first, nothing was entirely clear, and I lost a
month or so of development time, when I did not know that the entire SRD
could be used.....
