Please vote by midnight, Monday, June 19, 2000 to approve or
disapprove version 1.0 of the OpenGL ABI for Linux. Please read ALL
instructions below before voting.
VOTING PRINCIPLES
-----------------
This vote follows the principles Allen articulated on the recent
A/B/C issue, which let us finally drive that to a close. To recap,
these principles are:
- Limit the problem to a two-way choice (YES or NO).
- Set a firm deadline. Votes will be accepted until midnight Pacific
time, Monday, June 19, 2000. People may change their votes until
that time. The last vote received from each voter will be tallied.
- Clarify who is eligible to vote. Votes will be accepted from anyone.
In particular, votes from more than one voter at the same
organization will be allowed. We assume that people will not vote
unless they feel they can make an informed choice.
- Define the decision process. Simple majority will carry the
decision. In the event of a tie, YES will win, because we need to
finish this.
- Separate voting from discussion. Votes must be sent to
'[EMAIL PROTECTED]'. 'R'eplies to this call for
votes MAY go to the right place, but DO NOT ASSUME THIS. Check your
message headers before voting. Votes on the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list WILL NOT BE COUNTED.
- Results will be summarized by Wednesday, June 21 by email to the
oglbase-discuss list. (Addition) Votes are not secret. Your vote
will be identified by name.
THE VOTE
--------
This vote is to approve or disapprove version 1.0 of the OpenGL ABI
for Linux. We are voting on the 0.9.8 (May 29) draft ABI
specification at
http://oss.sgi.com/projects/ogl-sample/ABI/
Together with the instantiation of part of that specification in the
glext.h / glxext.h files at
http://oss.sgi.com/projects/ogl-sample/ABI/glext.h
http://oss.sgi.com/projects/ogl-sample/ABI/glxext.h
A YES vote is a vote to APPROVE the ABI.
A NO vote is a vote to DISAPPROVE the ABI.
On approval, the ABI document will be updated to version 1.0. Minor
errors in glext.h or glxext.h which can be fixed prior to publishing
version 1.0, without affecting the substance of the ABI
specification, should not be considered reasons to disapprove.
BALLOT
------
To vote, please send mail ONLY to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
by midnight Pacific time, Monday, June 19. The message body must
contain only
<your name> YES
or
<your name> NO
If you 'R'eply to this message to cast your vote, make SURE that you
are sending your vote to the voting address, and NOT to the
[EMAIL PROTECTED] discussion list. Votes to the wrong
address will NOT be counted.
ObHumor
-------
If your last name is YES or NO, please contact Jon Leech directly to
make special arrangements for recording your vote. I do not
anticipate this problem affecting anyone except a power-mad dictator
in the South China Sea, and he's been preoccupied with other
concerns than Linux.
