------- Comment #2 from [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2007-06-26 21:25 ------- On Windows, the standard common dialog control lags too at times when you pick the drive from the combobox. Here are causes that I can figure out: 1) Slow CD-ROM drive (solution: don't probe a CD-ROM drive, or give up after a second or two) 2) Disconnected network drive(s) (solution: don't probe network drives, or give up after a second or two) 3) Connected network drive(s) that haven't been authenticated to (solution same as #2) In all cases, it would probably be best to throw up a box that says "Probing devices..." before any file picker display occurs, then probe the devices (cache them preferably if that doesn't happen already), then display the menu. On normal people's systems, they won't see the dialog, or it will disappear too soon to read it. On systems with the conditions I wrote above (there may be others, but all I know is that I've had all three cases cause Word to freeze up at work), they won't be wondering what's going on while it's doing its business. -- Configure bugmail: http://gilgamesh.hamsterrepublic.com/cgi-bin/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. _______________________________________________ ohrrpgce mailing list [email protected] http://lists.motherhamster.org/listinfo.cgi/ohrrpgce-motherhamster.org
