Right now we can only import BMP format images. Being able to import other
formats like PNG, JPG GIF and others would be nice. Unfortunately the decoders
for those can be rather complex.
The method of executing an external converter outlined in bug 372 could be used
here to make other formats optionally importable if the appropriate converter
is available.
