Hmm? I assumed this would be straightforward under both unix and windows,
though I can't admit to have ever used the APIs for processes under either (or
use ps under unix?). Just check the executable name for that process id, if it
exists, and compare it to "custom", "ohrrpgce-custom", or the name of the
current custom executable. That's not bullet proof, but it'll definitely catch
more than 99% of cases.

As for C): if the original process is no longer running, what's wrong with
proceeding as we currently do?
