`scons release=0 hspeak` builds of hspeak not executing on modern distros,
including Debian 11, is bug #1119. Recompiling Euphoria from source ourselves
(and ensuring portability of the executable the same way we do for others,
likely non-trivial) is the best fix for that bug. If #1119 is fixed then this
one is solved too. I would proceed with trying to get that working. We should
compile a more recent version of euphoria than 4.1.0. IIRC since 4.1.0 they
have fixed problems with compiling their 64 bit port. But I haven't tried to
compile euphoria since probably 2010.
I am not sure whether that defsym kludge is sensible or not.
