Illumos should have GEM support already, but that only helps with
the Intel driver, as the other DRI drivers use the TTM memory manager
instead. KMS is what you need for the new Intel driver, and KMS & TTM
for the new ATI, and probably Nouveau as well.
Pathscale was working on a OpenSolaris port of nouveau at one point as
well for their GPGPU compiler work.
