Hi, firefox for Solaris (and descendants) is maintained outside of the 'normal' infrastructure, you need to download it from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/latest/contrib and install using 'pkgadd' (if that's the one you select).
for packages that you got from a 'pkg' repository, 'pkg install <package>' normally does the upgrade for you (or used to when I did such things regularly ... sadly, I don't work on or with OI et.al very much these days, so things may have changed).
