The segfault and core dump appears to be intermittent.  We had a power
failure today, and the Intel system rebooted the new BE.  This time, the
VESA driver did not report an error, and lightdm did not segfault, but kept
on going.

Yes, according to the X11 server log, my system is using only the VESA
driver on the built-in Intel graphics.  The resolution is better,
though.  It's 1600x900.
