We definitely will apply! It's been an extremely successful program for us the
past few years.
We are open to suggestions for projects that would be appropriate for students.
Mostly, the students tend to just pick from the our published list. So if
there are things you'd like added to OIIO but don't see us moving on quickly,
and it's something that can be done in about 10-12 weeks by a smart
undergraduate, please let us know.
Additionally, we always require that new students submit a patch (no matter how
trivial) before we will entertain their application for summer GSoC. This
weeds out the clueless who will never get anything done. So we are also in
need of an even longer list of small tasks -- 1 hour to a couple days, without
needing deep knowledge of the code base -- that students can choose from for
their qualifying patch.
