A word of caution: I expect the oiio target audience to be much more
interested in a contrast function which takes parameters defining the
contrast adjustment curve than one which does automatic histogram
equalization.  I'm not against having both however.

Does anybody else have thoughts about this?  In particular, I'd
appreciate further thoughts regarding an appropriate choice of contrast
curve.  The filmic contrast mentioned by Malcolm seems interesting -
should we run with that or is there a better alternative?
