If a channels mask is not specified than we apply the operation to "all" channels. This is clear what it means if the IBA function takes one input image.
What about two or more input images and a channels mask not specified? What is the "default" channels mask? I suggest a general solution: http://postimage.org/image/8weqcesy3/ I think the image pretty much says it all. It covers the common case also where all images have the same number of channels and we apply the operation to all channels.
