I've tried my best, based on reading MSDN pages. But I don't actually use Windows/MSVS, so I'm not 100% sure this will work. It would be extremely helpful if people using MSVS 2013, and also people using older versions, could pull this PR and try compiling with it on their systems. I want to ensure both that it builds cleanly on 2013, but also that I haven't broken anything for prior versions of MSVS.
