The downside to that is that samplers are generally expecting the display
window to span the extent of (u,v), so when the displayWindow subtends a
different region, badness happens.

As of 2.2, it's still a requirement that the displayWindows match across
parts.

What happened was that we commented out that restriction in a local
build...

So to answer Larry's question, Yes. That is a problematic restriction.
However, the constraint seems to have been put in place as a conservative
measure, and perhaps it's time to reexamine the constraint.

I agree that it makes total sense for displayWindows to match for rasters.
But for textures...
