We have tagged v2.3.18.0 as the latest supported release and moved the "release" branch marker to that point. This is guaranteed to be API, ABI, and link back-compatible with prior 2.3 releases. Release notes are below.
This will probably be the last 2.3 release as the "fully supported" branch. We'll continue to do 2.3 releases as needed, for a while, but considering it the "obsolete" branch, which means that over time, we will get more and more strict about only critical fixes being backported to 2.3. That's because I expect to create a 2.4 branch *imminently*, after which it will be in feature freeze and have a beta period for a few weeks, with the goal of an official designation as the new supported branch on September 1 (or as close to that as we can muster).
