Got the commons-sql to compile and test ok which was good. And after a little work I got things patched. Gonna see how it runs from here. I will let you know if I need your sources (like if the current commons-sql snapshot turns out to have had new bugs that kill me or something) If you want it and I seem to have time, I will see if I can generate an updated diff. (might make the commons-sql folks happier to add it if they don't have to resolve failing hunks though they really wern't bad at all, just 5 hunks total failed only one of them in a .java file).
As for Maven, it looks interesting, but I am currently employing about a 4-6 new (to me) technologies (Struts, OJB, JDO, XDoclet) (plus brushing agaisnt torque, and commons-sql now) on this project, and I am very comfortable with Ant so I don't think I will add another new tool to the list of tools I am learning on this project :) . I'm having lots of fun, but my brain might explode if I'm not careful :/ .

The project.xml (for maven) for the project has dom4j 1.4, commons-cli 1.0-beta-2, and jelly 1.0-beta-4, though those are probably pretty old and it will work with newer stuff. I don't think ant was used much for that project, just maven. Maven's great if you haven't looked at it before.
If you want I can send you or put somewhere the whole src package of what I have and you won't have to worry about patching. Just let me know. I'll put it somewhere if anyone else is interested.
