Thanks a lot for your thoughts on this.
I have a question as well. :-) Could you describe to us, in which
way(s) OK Denmark and the Danish civil society are involved in the
national strategy development process?
The eGoverment strategy is developed jointly by the Danish government
(represented by the Agency of Digitalization), Danish Regions and Local
Government Denmark (association of municipalities). It should be due
medio 2015. It's likely that there will be some kind of official hearing
however to have influence one need to influence the process in its very
early stages. This happens as ordinary lobby-work: through informal
(long term) contacts to civil servants; by attending meeting where
representatives of relevant organizations are present; by presenting
ideas that are reasonable seen from the perspective of the
decision-makers etc. Open Knowledge Denmark and others has been invited
to an informal coffee-meeting at the Agency of Digitalization (taking
place tomorrow morning) to discuss the eGovernement strategy, to have a
say we need to be prepared and present good arguments.

Hi Niels, all,
I think it is a great idea to think broader about implications of
"open" and have a strategy that caters for impact rather than the fact
that data (or sth else) is opened. Let me offer two ideas to think
about:
(1) I ran interviews with a few CIOs/CTOs and local Code for America
community members in Boston, Philadelphia, Mexico City recently (case
studies to be published in 2014, I hope). All of these cities have
their own flavor of an "innovation/civic tech lab" (eg
http://labplc.mx/ [5] andhttp://www.newurbanmechanics.org/ [6] ) .
This can be a very powerful approach to help reshape governments and
implement some of the things you mentioned. Here is an example on
national level, http://www.whitehouse.gov/innovationfellows [7].
I think we need to talk less about new technology and more about new
interactions between governments and citizens through new
technology...
(2) To your other point "related to open
government/data/access/education/transport/aid, open-whatever," ...
I have found that it is easier to explain to politicians (and other
decision makers) an overarching concept using familiar terms than each
openX approach individually. I am talking about "digital
sustinability" and explain how digital goods (software, data, content,
etc.) can be treated more sustainably and what the
benefits/implications are. Yes, sstainabilty is a broad and somewhat
vague term, but it is a very familiar and positive term. Single openX
concepts (FOSS, OD; OA, etc.) can then be explained as implementations
of a digital sustainability strategy. I wrote about this for the OKCon
2013 in Geneva,

Hi all
In Denmark we're discussing the follow up for the official
eGovernment strategy. The previous strategy had a rather narrow
focus: to make the public sector more cost-efficient using
digitalization. We are trying to collect input to propose for the
new strategy. Do you know of succesful government initiatives in
the field of digitalization/ITC that you could recommend?
We wish for a broader perspective that aims not only at saving
money by digitalization of existing services but also aims at
creating a better society: more open, transparent, taking civil
society into account, stronger democracy, empowering citizens,
cross-border/international cooperation, tackling the great
challenges facing us...What we're looking for is reasonable ideas
for realistic initiatives, these could be related to open
government/data/access/education/transport/aid, open-whatever,
citizens empowering etc.
