Just in case somebody is interested in a temporary solution to this problem,
here is a script based on the unoconv program:
#!/bin/bash
unoconv --listener &
kdialog --title "Please wait..." --passivepopup "Please wait for the conversion
to finish..." 20
sleep 20
unoconv -f pdf "$1"
kill -15 %-
okular "${1%.[^.]*}.pdf" &
