The navigation panel wastes much space by putting icons for "contents",
"thumbnails" etc. in vertical order. Whenever the user wants to use those
categories for example to see thumbnails which could be quite useful a lot of
space is wasted for those categories. They could be put above a vertical bar
with thumbnails/bookmarks etc and be resized smaller or at least the bar should
be resizeable (use QSplitter).
