So it looks like a serious design flaw in that component (the Save As panel) - if the locations probed are in a device-locked state, the whole program hangs. It also explains why it was so hard to kill okular itself. I assume the Save As panel is a part of KDE itself, not okular, so this problem should be forwarded to the KDE team?
