I built Okular with CMake in a separate build directory, satisfied all requirements by installing devel pacakges from apt, installed to /usr/local, then used it from there. I just found this page: https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Build_from_source#kdesrc-build I will follow those instructions and test.
