Dear Community Member,

### Submit your ideas for SoK today!

https://community.kde.org/2026

It's that time of year again when we all need to brainstorm ideas for
Season of KDE projects. We also need you to volunteer to become a
mentor.

Our mentorship programmes ensure the survival of individual projects
within KDE, as well as the survival of the KDE project itself. By
guiding others, you play a key role in ensuring new volunteers
actively participate in KDE and in making our software the best of its
kind.

### Time to get stuff done

Ideal projects are those that have hit a roadblock due to a key
missing feature or the lack of support for a particular format, and
require someone to dedicate some quality time to solving the issue; or
those that need a breath of fresh air to take them to the next level;
and then there are those that require crucial bug fixing or
documentation.

Not only do you get a chance to break through those bottlenecks, but
you also get new fresh perspectives on how to solve future issues, and
prepare the next generation of FLOSS contributors to keep up the godly
work.

What's not to love?

### Inspiration outlet here!

If you need inspiration, check out ideas from prior years:

- [2024](https://community.kde.org/SoK/Ideas/2024)
- [2025](https://community.kde.org/SoK/Ideas/2025)

Or visit KDE's social media:

-
[Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/kde/comments/1pw169e/my_wishlist_for_kde_in_2026_whats_yours/)—try
and ignore the entitlement and concentrate on the contents.

And finally here are some wild ideas we dreamed up ourselves:

- Implement a KDE Connect-based protocol that would allow KDE apps to
share configurations and data on paired devices. I.e. imagine being
able to configure Tokodon once on your desktop and magically have it
auto-configured on your phone too, or transparently synching your
trips on Itineraryover several devices.
- Create a proof-of-concept control panel for [Home
Assistant](https://www.home-assistant.io/) for Plasma Mobile using
[KIoT](https://github.com/davidedmundson/kiot).
- Solve the Plasma-Google integration problem.

#### About KDE Mentorship Programs

KDE is currently participating/organising three mentorship programs:

- **[Season of KDE](https://mentorship.kde.org/sok/)** (or **SoK**) is
two-month long mentorship programs that provides an opportunity for
people to do mentored projects for KDE.
[Timeline](https://mentorship.kde.org/sok/).
- **KUWoC**, organised in partnership with the University of
Kathmandu, lasts one month and aims to provide real life FLOSS
projects for students at the university to work on.
- **[Google Summer of Code](https://mentorship.kde.org/gsoc/)**
(**GSoC**): Google Summer of Code is a program sponsored by Google to
help developers start contributing to open source software. We will be
updating you on the timeline for that later in the year.

Cheers,

Paul & Johnny on behalf of the SOK26 coordinating team
