Bug ID: 521225
Summary: Allow annotations to use a standard PDF font
Classification: Applications
Product: okular
Version First 26.04.1
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: wishlist
Priority: NOR
Component: PDF backend
Assignee: [email protected]

Target Milestone: ---
The PDF specification lists 14 standard Type 1 fonts (Times, Helvetica,
Courier, etc.) that are expected to be available in any conforming PDF viewer
[1] and therefore do not normally need to be embedded in the PDF file itself.
The Annotation Options dialog for Okular's "Inline note" and "Typewriter" PDF
annotation tools allow the user to select a font for the annotation text. If
any such annotations are added to a PDF document, Okular embeds the selected
font in the PDF file.
In the Annotation Options dialog, it seems the only fonts listed are TTF/OTF
files that are installed system-wide. It would be nice if Okular alternatively
allowed the user to select one of the 14 standard Type 1 PDF fonts. This way
it would not need to embed a new font in the PDF, keeping the file size small.
