A problem with this workaround, however, is that Okular seems to impose a minimum image size on stamp images, at least initially. That is, when I create a small (say, 12pt) caret in Inkscape and select it as the stamp annotation image in Okular, then Okular initially makes the stamp several centimetres wide.
