Ah ha! I'm with you. There are a few different ID patterns:
OL123W = a work OL456M = an edition OL789A = an author Given that the main OL search is a Work search, when you look for OL*W, everything's fine. I don't think we index all a Work's editions' IDs in the Work search, which would account for your searches not working. Ideally, a search for any type of OL ID (Work, Edition, Author) should take you straight to that page. Edward - please correct me if I'm wrong.
