It looks like the date next to the Edit button does change, but indeed
the works, birthyear and name of last user who edited the record do
not.
The works titles are not stored in the author records, but are somehow
stored in the search engine index. I can understand that the shown
works do not change with the revision of the author record.

Perhaps you can find the merge-author 'changeset' that is a record of
the records changed by the author merge and distill the works from
there. Or you submit a support request using the "problem" link at the
bottom of the page. I think Mary from support said something about an
"undo merge" button near the history of a merged author, but I don't
think I ever saw one. Support can definitely reverse author merges (I
make mistakes ;) ). You have to point out the exact merge you would
like reversed, but in your example that shouldn't be hard.
