Hmmm -- okay. The code in the WordPress plugin is explicitly removing them with the comment "13-digit ISBNs often have one, but not used by Open Library" (link to the current HEAD of trunk):

Is the problem is that there is no normalization of ISBNs happening in the Open Library index? When using the API, is it recommended to use dashes in ISBNs or not?
