I'm afraid I don't know the reason, I just know that during an earlier discussion we learned that it was a decision of the Archive, and my impression was that it had to do with either privacy or legal issues (e.g. no one can subpoena an email that hasn't been saved). In any case, it seems to be not only the OL lists but others as well.
