RE: sleeper accounts That was definitely one thing that was going on during the spam-a-thon that we experienced. If you look at the stats on the front page you see a huge spike in new accounts starting when Anand blocked edits from folks not logged in. These were then used to continue the spamming. Once Raj implemented the captcha, that stopped. However, the average for new accounts is about 500 per day normally, and I, too, think this sounds quite high.
Admins can block accounts, but so far there isn't a "check this for spam" button. Raj (or someone during that flurry) suggested that we should have a way to flag records and account for follow-up. That assumes that there is someone who CAN and WILL follow up and who has the ability to reverse spam and block accounts.
