Thanks Tom, I realised that, like one realises s/he should have backed up
the moment a hard disk breaks... I'm logging the records that I'm
correcting now.

To find these, I requested the 300 most recent edits by VacuumBot using the
Recent Changes API (I had not used VacuumBot in the meantime):

With (Google) Refine, I filtered the 86 bulk updates made on that day, and
found the old value using the comments, updated the formats to the ones I
had wanted to use, created a script to do the updates (with logging of each
record ID and outcome) and tested it on the first of the bad edits. When
that went okay, I started it for the other records.
