Thanks Will

I'd love to see the math on it.

Ken,

I've not done the conversion, but have become interested in doing one
myself, so I have began to crunch some numbers to help me decide what
exactly I want. I have developed a spreadsheet to do the math. It is
still in the works as I have not set it up to calculate all the values I
want. At this point though, it does give engine speed vs. truck speed.
In due time I will refine it to make it user friendly and post it to the
files section. The rear end conversion question comes up often, and
hopefully this will be a valuable tool in helping folks make their
decision.

In more direct response to part of your question, I can tell you that
you will have reduced power in climbing hills and pulling loads. As
speed is increased, torque (which results as the force pushing your
truck along) decreases. The laws of science tell us that there will
most definitely be a loss in the ability to climb hills and pull loads.
I can quantify that in terms of numbers, but how does it really feel, I
cannot say as I've not done the conversion. I hope the chart below will
give you a better idea of what speeds should be possible. Note that
calculations are done for a 3.55:1 GR in the rear end, and assuming a
13" tire raduis. If you would like for me to post values with different
ratios, or different tire raduis, please let me know.

Just wondering if anyone who has converted the AD rear end to high speed
(3:55/1 I think?) can give me some feedback. Are you happy with the
conversion and can you comfortably due 60-65 MPH? Has it reduced power
on hills, etc. I want to try a conversion vs. the open drive shaft just
to have the original look. I'm restoring a truck that won't be a daily
driver but would like the luxury of taking it out on the freeway
occasionally. BTW, I'm being quoted a price of appx $600 parts and
labor.

Thx
