The only U-joint coupling that I have is from a late 30s ½-ton. Do you think
that would work?

They ought to be the same on all closed drive shaft models. I have the whole
back plate of unknown origin, but probably '49. I can take a picture of it
if need be. I need the U joint coupling that goes on the very back of 53 2
ton four speed, and I'll trade straight across, but of course I would like
to see a picture of the coupling to make sure it's the right piece
