Since the  system voltage is around 8 Volts, does the voltage regulator ever 
see a low enough voltage to allow any charging to occur??   Beyond that, sounds 
like a great idea!

I ran an 8V battery for several years. worked great but had to jack up the 
voltage regulator, to make it charge the battery.

I was going to drive my '51 3600 to work yesterday, and the 6V that was in the 
truck when I bought it apparently bought it. I had a guy tell me today that I 
should put in an 8V battery, as it will crank the motor just a little faster 
when starting, and won't do any damage to anything electrical. Does this guy 
know what he's talking about?
