At hot idle , oil should be weeping out of the rocker holes , not spraying , weeping very slowly .
On older 216 & work out 235/261's ,it's common to not see any oil until the engne revs above 1,200 RPM ~ test this with the engine running valve cover in place , _slightly_ rev. the engne and wait ~ it takes time to bleed the accumulated air out and begin weeping .
DO NOT mindlessly rev. the engine trying to mak lots of oil spray out .

Robert Asked :
Hi All,
Should there be a lot or little oil coming in the top of the engine around the lifters. I have removed the valve cover gasket and can lift the valve cover off after i shut the engine off after running for a few minutes and not much oil is present. Is this normal or should there be a good bit coming up inside valve cover and then draining back down thru the holes?
Thanks, Robert
