The crank does seem to be a correct forged crank, but the eBay picture still
disturbs me. The absence of the 400493 on the crank also disturbs me. I'm
just not sure.

I saw that at $400
turned quite a bit already though.
It's the real deal, see that J shaped notch on the rear face. That's all you

need to see.

The number is generally there but very difficult to find. The dies were 
stamping out red-hot hi-quality steel, and the ID numbers did not seem to 
last long. Thus they soon made weak impressions in the part.

Proceed to buy with wild abandon, if a forged crank is what you want.
