I think you should paint it based on what it is, which is a blue '72
455.  Avoids any accusations of "misrepresentation" when you do it that way.

My second choice would be 455 red, but then I'd want to do things that
made it look more like a '69 455 would in that body, i.e. H/O
accessories.  Sounds like you've got other aftermarket stuff on it,
so...blue.

Wouldn't go back with the correct bronze unless you were looking to go
455 in 400 stealth mode, doesn't sound like that's an option for the
same reason red isn't the way to go _for_you_.

re: the original 400 - I wouldn't rebuild it until it was ready to be
built; I would keep it together and turn it over periodically unless you
wanted to tear it down, clean it real good, oil up all the surfaces to
prevent rust, and keep it in a sealed plastic bag
