Jeeez! The lady certainly did write a LOT! You'll be just another Olds guy
in her book Randy. So, educate us too: Unless the crank noses are different
diameter, the whole timing set should be the same, correct?

Yes, everyone, all 260, 307, 330, 350, 400, 425, and 455 Olds engines,
'64-'84, use the same timing gears and chain!

For a real quick reality check, look at the Olds listing for a Crane Cams
roller timing set:

Agreed, to an extent.
You CAN use any Olds timing set on any of the gas engines from the '64 330 thru the non-roller-cam 307's.

HOWEVER, the early BB chain and sprockets were SIGNIFICANTLY wider than the SB units. Such info is found in the Chassis Service Manuals of the era. I have verified this visually as well, and still have a real 20k mile Toronado Timing Set with all the nylon still in place.

I tried to buy a timing set for an Olds engine from a parts dealer near Davis CA years ago, he brings out a Chevy set. 3 bolt holes. Bleh. I inform him that will NOT do. he re-checks the listing, "that's what's listed". Continue shopping elsewhere I guess.
