Go for the THM400.  You will need a very short yoke to 
use your original drive shaft.  A switch pitch (try PAE) 
will pep up a stock 2.56 axle.  Other details later.  

A 455 is great, but you might consider a 403.  The 
small block bolts in easier, comes with valve rotators 
and HEI to cut maintenance, and is quite happy to 
run on crap gas.
