If I remember correctly the first usage for a torx bolt was to adjust the flow for the kanutant valve.  Without it the exhaust system could not regulate its media output, possibly causing the driver to loose control.  Removing it was a federal offense and could result in expulsion from the country.  Luckily the NAACP stepped in and sued to get it removed as just like sickle cell it unjustly affect the negro race.  This much to the chagrin of the afl/cio which saw an alarming increase in carpel tunnel, causing the assembly lines to slow to unacceptable levels.  In one instance a 80 yr. old grandmother was arrested and held in a mental institution for altering the device.  She was eventually charged with domestic terrorism and conspiracy to commit plagiarism.  Charges later dropped when Rev. Al Sharpton stepped in and proved that she was just an unwitting pawn in a plot hatch by mob boss John Gooti to try and take complete control over the White House.  It was very tense there for awhile as the cold war was being fought and the Soviets saw it as a threat.  Later it was proven to be an experiment by NASA to try an attract nuclear warheads to unsuspecting motorists instead of National Targets.  Today there is no use for these valves as Ronald Reagans Star Wars has made the system obsolete,  Avery tense time in the US history,  being only 18 a the time I know myself and all my friends were very concerned as talk of the Draft was all the buzz.  Thank God we got thru it all!

I dunno. I assume it was in the 1970s since the seatbelt retainer bolts on
my '78 used a mega-sized Torx. My '79 Electra used Torx screws on the
headlight doors, but my '78 Delta used Phillips in the same application. I
haven't come across too many of these on any of my Oldses.
