Greg,
Or going back even further, the original Ford Bronco and International
Scout. They were rough, crude, but served the purpose. But apparently the
market doesn't want such things these days. I often wonder if someone were
to come out with a similar vehicle today but with vinyl seats instead of
leather, crank windows instead of power, no A/C, etc., and a
commeasureately lower pricetag, if it would sell.
It would for some people. When Pat bought her 2WD Toyota Fourrunner, she
wanted a model that had ***no*** fancy controls and was a plain jane, but
with the biggest engine. Her vehicle has minimal power options, but does
have power windows, since that is all that was offered. She doesn't want
those. That's one reason she likes my old Olds iron. They are simple to use
and simple to maintain. I just surprised her yesterday by replacing a bad
master cylinder on the '65 F-85 in 25 minutes, including bench and firewall
bleeding, and didn't get any air into the rest of the brake lines. It took
me longer to go buy the master cylinder. She was impressed.
