I rebuilt the brakes on my 4-4-2 in 1984. At that time I used silicone fluid in it. Other than topping off the master cylinder a few times over the years, the brakes are in good shape. That's 22 years and 30,000 miles of trouble free braking thanks to the silicone fluid. The car obviously sets for extended periods.
