Kenneth, If you come across a Cutlass convert with the shoulder belts and are able to take a picture or two, please send them to me. I've been thinking of getting the buckles and having them made, but am unsure of the routing to get the length correct. I do have the buckle holders for them next to the rear seats. I have been uncable to find them in any Olds manuals from '71. The Fisher Body manual shows seatbelts, but does not cover this.
Kurt Heinrich 1971 Cutlass Supreme SX Convertible OCA# 30442 Yes, shoulder belts were an OPTION on the convertible. The shoulder belt was anchored in back near the lift cylinders, and was similar to the early overhead shoulder belts in that it used two separate buckles mounted to the floor up front (one for lap belt and one for shoulder belt). The shoulder belt used the wide slide adjuster style buckle, even with the Deluxe belts (small silver buckle and ratchet-locking adjuster). The later '72 shoulder belts had a nail head like projection that hooked into a slot on the lap belt tongue, so there was just one belt mounted to the front floor board. Apparently shoulder belts weren't ordered very often for convertibles. I have seen only two Cutlass 'verts with them so far, and we have a LOT of convertible Cutlasses here in the Phoenix area.
