Here is a good problem for you folks to chew on: Low or no oil pressure.

I started my car up the other day. It made horrendous noises, so I shut it
down immediately. I restarted it, and the gauge read "0" pressure....WTF.

So I do the following:

1. Check the oil level - full

2. Pull both valve covers - no issues with the pushrods or rocker arms.

3. Pull the distributor - the hex in the gear is perfect

4. I pull the oil pump shaft - No issues here

So, I pull off the oil filter, and fill another filter and screw it on.

I then proceed to put my oil pump priming tool on the pump drive shaft and
spin it both CW and CCW. I remove the sender fitting, and spin the drill to
get about a half quart of oil out.

Put everything back together, and fire the car up - perfect oil pressure and
no noises.

I drive about 15 miles, and the oil pressure drops to about 15 PSI. I limp
home and change the oil filter again. Fire it up - perfect oil pressure.

Go for another drive, and after about 20 miles, the oil pressure drops to
about 15 PSI AGAIN.

So, here is my prognosis: the pressure relief valve is sticking due to
debris or some other reason.

Comments?????

It appears that an engine R&R is in my immediate future......:(

BTW - Oil pump is a Melling HV with a Milodon 7 quart pan.
