Subject: RE:Cascading Mightaswells, Part the Third

I'm waiting on a batch of parts from Year One and eVilBay. By the way, did you know it's incredibly easy to break the oil
dipstick tube when attempting to tweak it wound new headers? Ask me
how I know. :(

Kevin I hope you didn't pay 3-10x too much for the new one....they are still available direct from GM for about $3-4.

Not with shipping they're not. You have to buy 3 or 4 of them to make the shipping worth it. I still considered doing so, and probably should have. Instead, I bought a chrome one off of eVil. Not because it was chrome, mind you, but I was mesmerized by the billet handle. I just put it in yesterday (Thursday) and would like to say: "use the factory tube." I had to work over the aftermarket piece. The uppermost of the two bulges that make the tube a press fit was too big by at least .010. It took a fair amount of work with the vise and file to get it to where the blamed thing would even go in, much less somewhat easily, to be retained by sealer, as Chris Witt has suggested. What I should have done was gotten a factory tube, and used the pretty billet dipstick with it. I probably could have absconded with one from one of the spare engines that my dad has; the one from the engine that the oil pan I'm now using would have been ideal, most likely... FWIW, the aftermarket piece seems to be slightly heavier tubing than the factory bit.

On digest mode, so I'm a little slow...
