Ok all,

Could not sleep tonight something was bothering me about my post on the early 50's super 88 as possibly being one of the first factory muscle cars.

I have to correct myself, it was 1949 and the name was Rocket 88, not Super.

For those of you that have "Setting the Pace" there is a good write up on this Oldsmobile starting on page 231.

For those of you who do not, it basicly tells that at the start of 1949 there were the Rocket powered 98's (C body) six cylinder 76's (smaller car physicaly, B body) Oldsmobile used the 76 body with the Rocket engine to create the high performance 88. This is where I get the idea that Oldmobile may have been way ahead of the curve when it comes to putting a larger car engine in a smaller car. Akin to, but way before the Poncho GTO's, and many others in the 60's

Anyways, have to correct myself here. :)

David
