Fines apparently mean nothing to NJ drivers....I have
lived here over 50 years, and I can usually count on
one hand the number of people I encounter on the
Garden State Parkway and NJ Turnpike that are neither
on their cell phone, nor speeding, nor both.
Actually, the law is written so that you actually have
to be doing something else wrong for them to pull you
over and cite you for using your cell phone.

While I share the sentiment about [EMAIL PROTECTED] NJ drivers (NY and PA are no
better IMO ... and 9 out of 10 times when you see someone driving
erratically, when you're able to look in the car you can see them on their
@#$%ing cell phone), a cell phone violation has been a primary offense
(meaning the officer can stop you for it) since 1 July 2004. The same
became true of seat belts, though not sure when that crossed over from a
secondary offense. IIRC, the town of Nutley, NJ was one of the first in
the nation to institute a cell phone ban, after a young boy was killed on a
residential street by some fool yapping on their cell phone. Me, I never
use the cell phone in the car ... especially in the Olds .... I couldn't
hear it over the symphony of engine and wind noise if I wanted to ;)
