26 inch Hoosier slicks, 4.11 gear, Coan 2800 converter, we can get better gas, but it was almost full of the cheap stuff when he decided to go to the track. 94 makes a difference as does real leaded race gas. We have discussed the tire situation and a taller set will replace the current pair in due time. I think it may pick up some as well with a taller tire. A set of collector extensions are in the works as well. I made a pair for my 4-4-2 and it really responded well, so his car should do the same.
He has a one inch phenolic spacer under the Q-jet and says the car has a surge of power in high gear after 4500. I have not driven it on the track yet, but may soon just to see what it's doing. We figure 8.0's are right around the corner with better air and good fuel.
Based on how my 4-4-2 reacts to things, a dip into the 7's should be possible without spending a ton of money, just some finessing.

I got a time slip here buddy in the other lane did a 1.76 60ft. and in the 1/8 did 8.14,for the 1/4 mile 12.84 104.67. You cant get 94 at the pump? 94 temp outside is HOT. fall will be faster fer sure. On the 72 i i had 391s in the rear,28" tall tire was going threw the 1/4 at 5500-6000 rpm. 108mph 12.68. I needed a taller tire also,,torque motors like this i noticed going threw at 5000-5500. Sounds like you and son had fun. Randy H.
