Hi Joe,
Funny how technology has progressed in such a short time. From my 1950's
6 Stromberg's, to 1960's the whole idea of "Cross Ram" long runners and the
"ram" affect you speak of. And getting a long column of air moving at a high
rate of speed, so as the intake valve opens, the next "charge" of air/fuel
mixture would be pushed past the valve with greater force and not just drawn
in.
All of this was good until the charge had to make a sharp turn. Then you
got the separation of air/fuel and puddling. That is why at the time a
Hilborn Injection worked so much better, long induction tube to "ram" the
air, and direct port injection to "ram" the fuel. Just not very street-able.
Ah then we come to up graded technology and the single plane intake
manifold, such a Edelbrock Super Victor with 1 inch spacer, and a velocity
stack, etc. 350 CID, roller cam with good springs, cleaned up heads, 1 - 850
CFM carb, 1 - manifold = 700 Horsepower and 10,000 RPM's. We don't even have
to go into "Tunnel-ram" manifolds.
LET THE FORD GUYS CRY!
Howard
