OK, worked out pretty well.
Have not done the front uppers yet, they are still on the car.
Turns out not too hard to make, but working in the garage with no real metal
saw or lathe takes a lot longer to do good work. Won't be making several
sets by this manner.
Removing the bushings w/o the tool in place leads to bent control arms, as
the wall just moves and cocks and grips the bushing more. [oops].
With the tools in place, NO WORRIES.
collapse the buthings' sides with chisel and BFH.
put support tool in place
put receptacle tool [short pc of pipe] under CA/bushing to support CA and
allow bushing to fall thru
Hit bushing with VBFH using pipe or large socket to apply the strike to the
bushing only.
Voila' out she comes.
The measurements vary a bit even for the same location on different parts,
so I ended up with about 3-4 sets of C shaped wall support spacers.
1) measure gap with calipers
2) transfer that msrmt to the pipe of the correct dia or thereabouts- dia
not crucial; they can be bent to suit later.
3) cut that much pipe off Nice & SQUARE [ha ha ha] by hand with Sawzall
4) square up the ends on the disk sander
5) cut the stubby pc of pipe into two ~180 degree C shaped pcs and ck for
fit
6) smooth the sharp edges as necessary
7) press then into service.
The various sizes of pipe scraps cost me about $5 at the scrap metal yard.
