Hi ken
Yes that does help greatly it is definitely a v notch and as long as
it is high compression then I am not to fussed I am going to change THE
inlet from the 2brl to the one of off my 69 455 which is a 4brl and then the
car will be on lpg anyway our government has just bought in rebates which
cover just about all the cost of having your car converted to gas a saving
of $3000

Subject: Re: update on the 455

Neil/List,
I just checked my 1968 Chassis Manual, and if it has a true "V" shaped
notch,
it's considered "high compression" in either the 350 or 455. A "U" shaped
notch denotes a "low compression" 350 or 455.

Milton's right about the depth of the dish in the piston also giving away
the
compression the piston's supposed to make. But since both the "high" and
"low" compression pistons have a dish, Oldsmobile decided to put specific
marks
on the pistons to tell which is which.

This manual doesn't show the W-31 350 pistons (which has no dish in the at
all) but it does show the 400 for 1968: the "low compression" pistons have
_two_
"V" shaped notches in them (side by side) and the "high compression" pistons

have two notches AND no dish, just like the W-31's.

They show them on Page 6B-17, Figure 6B-140.

Hope this helps, Take Care!
